Credit cards

How does the credit card comparison service work?

Most of us have a credit card with the bank we have always been with. But just because it does the job doesn’t mean it’s the best card for our individual needs. We all use our cards differently, so we can all benefit from tailor-made cards.

Different uses, different cards

Take Mike, Karen and Jodie. They all have similar cards, but when you look at their circumstances, it’s plain to see one size does not fit all.

Mike has three cards that are all maxed out. (He likes nice clothes.) He makes the minimum repayments each month and is barely cutting into his debt at all, thanks to the accumulating interest.

Mike would be better off transferring his outstanding balances to one new card that has a long interest-free period on balance transfers, or a low interest rate for the life of the debt. Then, he could really make a dent into his debt.

Karen uses her card sensibly. She makes a lot of purchases, but always pays the full amount off before the interest kicks in. For her, the interest rate is not important. She could get other benefits from her card, like AirMiles or cashback, where she is rewarded for her spending.

Jodie tries to pay her balance off before the interest kicks in, but rarely makes it. (She is forgetful and slightly disorganised.) She often ends up incurring a hefty amount of interest. She would benefit from a card with a typically low interest rate on purchases, and preferably an introductory 0% interest rate.

A credit card, especially for you

We work with uSwitch.com’s credit card comparison service, to enable you to compare and switch to a credit card that offers features relevant to the way you use it.

We compare all the credit cards on the UK market. So how do we find the best ones for you from amongst the hundreds?

Firstly, we find out a few things from you – what you want, whether you’ve had any credit problems and how you expect to use your new card.

Then, our credit card comparison service works out which cards would suit your needs and circumstances.

The results show you interest and charges, the cashback, customer rating, introductory interest rate and period, and typical interest rate. They are sorted in the order that we think is best for your particular needs (such as lowest interest rate), but you can opt to prioritise them differently.

Switching to a better card

If you find a card you want, you may be able to sign up for it immediately on our site. When we introduce new customers, we get a commission. Your results are objective and are not affected by the commercial relationships. They allow us to keep this service free.

So, whether your relationship with credit is closer to Mike’s, Karen’s or Jodie’s, there is a card out there for your needs and our credit card comparison service can help you find it.
