Switch to a water meter and save
You cannot switch water suppliers, but you can switch to a meter and pay for what you use. If you use less water than the average amount for a home your size, you will be better off with a meter.
How Susie saved by switching
Smart Susie doesn’t use much water. Although she has a large house, she lives alone, takes showers, puts on a load of washing once a week, eats out regularly and never waters the garden. Her toilet is dual flush and she turns the tap off while brushing her teeth.
Her neighbours, the Wasteful Watsons, live in a similar sized house, but churn through the water. The kids take baths, the husband is forever watering the garden, and the wife washes her car every week. They leave the tap on while brushing their teeth and have an old fashioned single flush toilet.
Smart Susie realised she was paying too much for her water. She was paying the same as the Wasteful Watsons, just because their properties were a similar value. So, she switched to a water meter and now pays for what she uses.

It’s free to switch
Almost all households are entitled to a free water meter. (The exception is if it’s too difficult or expensive to install.)
If you decide you would like a water meter, you can request one on our site. It’s quick and easy. All you have to do is complete your contact details. Then we pass your details onto your supplier and they contact you to organise it.
If you change your mind, all you have to do is tell your supplier when they contact you. Otherwise, they will arrange for an engineer to install a meter in your property.
Switching back
If you realise you have made a drastic mistake, don’t panic. You can change back to an unmetered water bill within the first year. The water meter will always be there you just go back to paying unmetered rates.
